A Gift Across the Distance

Nila and Samir are separated by thousands of miles, but that doesn't stop Samir from making Nila feel special on her birthday. Instead of sending an ordinary gift, he creates a collection of messages and memories that reminds her that distance can separate two people, but it cannot erase a meaningful connection.

A Gift Across the Distance

Nila had always hated birthdays when Samir was away.

For three years, their relationship had survived different cities, time zones, busy schedules, and missed video calls. They spoke every day, but sometimes a screen didn't feel like enough.

On the morning of her birthday, Nila woke up to a short message.

Check your email.

That was all Samir had written.

Curious, she opened it.

Inside was a link to a simple page titled:

“Reasons I Still Choose You, Even From Far Away.”

Nila smiled.

She clicked.

The first message was about the day they met.

The second was about the first time they laughed together until neither of them could speak.

Then came photographs, short letters, screenshots of old conversations, and tiny messages from Samir.

“For the days you think the distance is too much.”

“For the nights I wish I could be beside you.”

“For the future day when goodbye will only mean see you later.”

At the very end was a video.

Samir appeared on the screen, looking nervous.

“I'm sorry I can't give you a hug today,” he said. “But until I can, I wanted to give you something else.”

He paused.

“A reminder that every day apart is also one day closer to being together again.”

Nila sat quietly for a moment.

Then she laughed, wiped away a tear, and called him.

When Samir answered, she didn't say thank you immediately.

Instead, she simply said:

“I felt you here today.”

For both of them, that was enough.
